Brackish culture
Brackish Culture (2024) is a series of seven improvised miniatures performed in response to the sculpture GYGA by Martha Skogen. GYGA was constructed entirely out of found objects dredged from the Nidelva and pulled from the sea.
To prepare the improvisations, I visited the sculpture at multiple stages in its construction and selected key aspects of the work's character on which to focus musically. The improvisation was created in a single performance and features periods of stability and roughness–both intentional and unintentional–that mirror the nature of the found objects' varied states of decomposition.
